Why join Observatory Parlor 177, Native Sons of the Golden West?

Firstly, this group extends an open invitation to all who were born in California. Found in our motto, “Friendship, Loyalty, and Charity” is our social purpose. Observatory Parlor was chartered August 13, 1891 and has served the greater Santa Clara County area since it inception. One will also find that it is subordinate to the Grand Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West that is located in San Francisco, CA. The Internal Revenue Service recognizes Observatory Parlor 177, NSGW as a community based non-profit fraternal & charitable organization 501 (c) (8). Annually we solicit our membership and guest to donate to a trust fund held by our parent organization that supports free surgery for children afflicted with facial and cranial abnormalities. In addition to the above charitable purpose Observatory Parlor also participates in the erection & dedication of historical interpretive monuments in an effort to perpetuate the history of the State of California.

Observatory Parlor (named after the Lick Observatory, Mount Hamilton) meets at 6:00 P.M. for a Business Meeting that is followed by a Social Meeting on the 3rd Wed. of each month, except for the months of May and December. Our Social Meetings (including dinner and drinks) start at 6:30 P.M. & might last to nine o’clock. The maximum expenditure of time is the three hours that includes the enjoyment of a dinner and one dollar drinks - currently $7.50 is being assessed for the dinner. The ten monthly meetings are held at the Willow Glen American Legion Hall located at 1504 Minnesota Ave, San Jose, CA

Lastly, Observatory Parlor currently consists of around sixty members ) who enjoy getting together & swapping stories of their adult or common experiences. One will find that the personality of the Parlor is low key, come as you are, and is informal. Again, you are invited to affiliate or first attend as a guest.
